Retention Pond

We were hired to drill & blast rock for the excavation of a sediment retention pond as part of a larger development project. We faced a couple of challenges with this project including an existing combined sewer main located nearby as well as a predominantly shallow seam in the rock formation which made fragmentation of the cap rock difficult. We addressed this issue by utilizing decked charges, as well as adequate cover and blasting mats to keep energy transfer within the rock mass. To prevent disturbance to the nearby buried utilities we utilized seismic monitoring along with proper shot timing that resulted in negligible vibration and no disturbance to surrounding structures or utilities. Overall we met customer expectations and successfully blasted approximately 7,500 cubic yards of material for this project.
